WASA is a group of young dynamic women who are passionate about agriculture and transformation of agricultural produce in order to increase shelve- life of farm products and to add value for better profit margin. 70% of the farming population in Africa are women, in which about 40% are women above 35 years of age and 30% are women below 30 years of age. So many of this women do agriculture just for subsistence, many are still to come to the realization that agriculture can actually be done as a business. It’s for this reason the group Women in Agriculture for Sustainable Africa (WASA) was created so as to aid women in agriculture as well as transformation in achieving their goals, to improve communication among women in agriculture to broaden the availability of knowledge on good agricultural practices that are eco friendly and sustainable.
Our mission is to empower girls and women in agric business, to establish enterprises that will positively influence their society, country and world at large. Improve the life style of women through poverty relief, encourage rural women by proving them with trainings and workshops on modern techniques in agriculture.
The long-term vision of the program is to empower women as champions of healthy food and farming systems, food justice and food sovereignty within their own communities and beyond. WASA exists so that women can give each other the information, connections and encouragement they need to be effective practitioners and supporters of sustainable agriculture and healthy localized food systems.
