Ambassadors Success Story
I have always believed that learning should go beyond the four walls of the classroom. Knowledge is everywhere, and at this age, at our fingertips. What matters is if we are willing to tap into it and use it for meaningful things. With this mindset, I made it my mission to acquire as much knowledge as possible and pursue meaningful opportunities whenever they came my way.
One such opportunity was the Global Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network (GCSAYN), and joining the program was one of the best decisions I have made as a young adult. The experience I have gained from the program has completely transformed my outlook, sharpened my skills, and ignited a new sense of purpose in me.
Before GCSAYN, I struggled with self-confidence. I used to tremble whenever I had to speak in public. I also found it difficult to work effectively with a team, and I had very limited exposure to global agricultural issues. Deep down, I knew I could do more. I just needed the right platform.
I first heard about GCSAYN through my university and decided to take a bold step by applying. I was fortunate to be selected as one of ten students to be mentored by Mr. Divine Ntiokam, the Executive Director of Climate Smart Agriculture. My first task was to read through the GCSAYN website, study the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the 2030 Agenda, and understand Agenda 2063: “The Africa We Want.” I met the deadline and successfully submitted my task.
For the second task, I registered for and attended a marathon relay focused on SDG 6. I actively participated as a note-taker for the North American session. That moment boosted my confidence and level of engagement.
Later, I received an email inviting me to join the GCSAYN Ambassadors Team. It was a proud and unforgettable moment. In this role, I had the privilege of speaking at a symposium, where I shared insights on GCSAYN’s impact on youth as enablers of change. I was also entrusted with leading the drafting of the concept note for GCSAYN’s Road2ACS2, which was successfully submitted to and approved by the Ethiopian Government.
Through this experience, I have grown into a better version of myself. I learned how to communicate effectively and speak with confidence, meet deadlines and stay accountable, work and lead in a team, and contribute meaningfully to climate-smart agriculture and global development goals.
Being part of GCSAYN gave me a platform for international collaboration. I connected with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, which widened my perspective and deepened my sense of responsibility. This journey has taught me that you don’t have to be perfect to succeed; you just have to be willing to try. Once you believe in yourself, you’ll be surprised how far you can go.
To everyone who feels they have lost out on opportunities: don’t give up. More opportunities will come. And when they do, step out of your comfort zone and grab them with both hands. That’s where true growth begins.
