CONTEXT

The CSAYN Health Advancement Program (CHAP) was launched on 1st December 2022. It is create din collaboration with International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA) towards enhancing the achievement of the Global Goals – SDG 3.

VISION

CHAP program was created as fruit of about 6 years of work, after the initial idea took birth in November 2016 during COP 22 where CSAYN’s Zero Hunger Pledge in favour of “SDG 2 – Zero Hunger” was made. He reiterated the deep connection between health, agriculture and nutrition, making the CHAP initiative a step in the right direction, to expand CSAYN’s scope of work to cover “SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being”.

Dr. Samuel Opoku Gyamfi, Chairman of CHAP welcomed all the participants to the launch event. He thanked everyone for making time to participate in the event. He also thanked the Executive Director of CSAYN, Mr. Divine Ntiokam as well as the entire CSAYN Global team, notably Mr. George Teboh for the support in organizing the event. Similarly, he expressed his utmost gratitude to the entire CHAP team for their efforts in making this dream a reality.

Address by Mr. Divine Ntiokam, Executive Director – CSAYN expressed his gratitude to the entire CHAP team for their commitment and devotion to this noble mission. He also thanked the participants for their time and sacrifice. Mr. Ntiokam concluded by encouraging each of the participants to support CHAP activities in their respective countries and encouraged the CHAP leadership to keep every participant involved in its activities starting from 2023.

Panel Discussion

With 1st December marking the World Aids Day, CHAP organized a panel discussion on HIV/AIDS prevention and control. Dr. Gyamfi (Chairman of CHAP), moderated the panel which had Mr. Saviour Yao Kufoalor (General Secretary of Healthrope International) and Dr. Kehwalla Mutia (Member of CHAP Task Force). A second panel discussion on how Agriculture, Food systems and Nutrition can be leveraged to improve the health of populations was also held with the same panelists. The panel discussions concluded with interactive sessions between the panelists and participants.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The CSAYN Health Advancement Programme (CHAP) was launched in the presence of the Executive Director of CSAYN, Mr. Divine Ntiokam as well as other participants present.

Resolution:
The participants unanimously approved that CHAP’s mission will be as follows:

Health Promotion: Promote the health of populations by consistently advocating for:

  • Food Security
  • Improving and monitoring the nutritional contents of the food produced.
  • The safety and wholesomeness of the food available in the market.
  • Healthy lifestyle initiatives to improve health.

Access to Healthcare: Improving access to healthcare through programs like community health outreach for vulnerable communities
