GCSAYN Appoints Cameroonian Soccer Star Farida Machia as First Female Goodwill Ambassador
Yaoundé, Cameroon, 26 April 2025 – The Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network Global (GCSAYN) is excited to announce the appointment of renowned Cameroonian footballer, Ms. Farida Machia, as its first Female Goodwill Ambassador. This appointment represents a significant milestone in GCSAYN’s mission to amplify youth engagement, climate action, and sustainable agriculture through influential advocacy and public outreach.
Ms. Machia, a celebrated professional soccer player and a passionate advocate for youth empowerment across Africa, brings her energy, public platform, and commitment to community development to this important new role. As GCSAYN’s Goodwill Ambassador, she will lead initiatives aimed at raising awareness of sustainable agri-food systems, environmental stewardship, nutrition security, and youth-led sustainability efforts—particularly among girls and young women both within Africa and globally.
“I am honored to take on this important role with GCSAYN,” said Ms. Machia. “As an athlete and African woman, I firmly believe in the power of youth to transform our communities through innovation, resilience, and sustainable practices. I look forward to using my platform to inspire action and help drive meaningful change where it’s needed most.”
Ms. Machia’s appointment underscores GCSAYN’s ongoing strategy to engage influential voices across various sectors in advancing the domestication and localization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). Additionally, she will collaborate with the African Union Commission to enhance the implementation of Agenda 2063— “The Africa We Want”—and to support the full realization of the Malabo Declaration and the recent Kampala Declaration, adopted at the AU Extraordinary Summit in Kampala, Uganda, where GCSAYN made a significant contribution.
“We are proud to welcome Ms. Farida Machia to the GCSAYN family,” said Ms. Olipa Lungu, Associate Director at GCSAYN. “Her leadership, energy, and authenticity make her an ideal role model for young people everywhere, and her unwavering commitment to sustainable development aligns perfectly with our vision.”
In her new role, Ms. Machia will participate in GCSAYN campaigns, community outreach events, youth dialogues, and international forums, championing the voices of young people and advocating for a more climate-resilient and food-secure future.
